Description
Create a Dramatic Footed Vase with a Fluted Rim using this 3-Piece Drop-Thru Mold that Automatically Aligns the Drop to the Center of a Wine-Glass Style Foot
This innovative Drop-Thru Mold Forming System enables fusers to create a delicate vase shape in a kiln that is remarkably similar to vessels made using traditional glass blowing techniques.
Video: How the Drop-Thru Mold System Works – only 2 minutes
This mold system consists of 3 ceramic components:
- The C100 Foot Casting Mold: used to create a 2 7/8” (73 mm) diameter x 1/4” (64 mm) thick cast glass foot disk using our ‘Scrap Casting’ technique.
- The DT305 Fluted Drop-Thru Ring: to shape the vase and guide the drop onto the cast foot disk.
- The DT301 Tripod Base: to support the Drop-Thru Ring while holding and centering the cast foot disk.
The mold is 7 3/4” (19.7 cm) wide by 4 3/4” (12 cm) high and can be used in most medium-sized kilns with a firing chamber that is at least 10” (25.5 cm) in diameter (or square) and 5 1/2” (14 cm) high.
The Drop-Thru mold is height adjustable, simply turn the ring 1/3 of a revolution to re-position it at 3 different levels to create 3 distinct Drop-Thru vase heights.
- Highest Position – Creates a vase 4 5/8” (11.7 cm) High
- Middle Position – Creates a vase 4 1/8” (10.5 cm) High
- Lowest Position – Creates a vase 3 1/2” (9 cm) High
You can purchase all 3 Drop-Thru mold components in one complete bundle, called the B300 Fluted Drop-Thru Mold Bundle or you can purchase any of the components separately. If you already have a Circle-Square Drop-Thru Mold Bundle you would only need to purchase the Fluted Ring, since the Foot Casting Mold and the Tripod Base are interchangeable.
The B300 Drop-Thru Bundle contains:
- DT301 Tripod Base
- C100 Foot Casting Mold
- DT302 Fluted Drop-Thru Ring
- A 4 page Instructional Booklet

I have been having a lot of fun using this system. I got the full bundle and have made some pretty wild looking stuff. It is easy to use if you follow the instructions and having adjustable height gives me lots of choices to work with. The trick is thinking ahead when you make your disk as to how it will look when a stretch beautifully distorts the image during the drop. Also, keep in mind that the foot is cast so think transparent materials so you can see depth and inclusions.
I am energy conscious so I always try to make extra feet in the casting mold every time I do another casting project in my kiln. It is a great way to use all of my scrap glass in my shop and I have a foot ready to inspire me on my next vase project. I highly recommend this set and hope Wardell will come with even more drop rings to work with in addition tot he two available today.

I agree with you Andrew, the B300 Drop Thru system allow you to make some pretty cool projects. I like to be energy conscious as well when I am casting the foot disks and I wanted to let you know you can purchase additional foot molds for the B300 and the B235 systems on our website. Would love to see photos of your ‘wild looking stuff’ sometime. Keep up the good work and keep a warm kiln. Randy
